Ecoglo® F4170 Aluminum Flat Stair Nosing – Black Non-Slip Stair Protection
Improve traction, define stair edges and protect high-traffic steps with a durable 2.7-inch-wide aluminum non-slip stair nosing.
The Ecoglo® F4170 Non-Slip Flat Stair Nosing combines a durable clear-anodized 6063-T5 aluminum profile with a hard-wearing black silicon-carbide non-slip insert. The right-angled profile fits over the leading edge of an existing stair to provide dependable traction, visible step-edge definition and durable protection in high-traffic applications.
Designed for commercial, institutional, industrial and public stairways, the F4170 can be installed on concrete, timber, tile, steel, checker plate and suitable thin carpeted stairs. It provides a practical solution for upgrading worn or slippery stair edges without replacing the complete stair assembly.
Model F4170 is part of the Ecoglo® F4-N20 non-photoluminescent flat stair-nosing series. It features a clear-anodized aluminum profile with a black silicon-carbide non-slip insert. The black insert provides traction and visible step-edge contrast but does not glow in darkness. For the black-anodized profile with a black insert, select model F4270.
The silicon-carbide non-slip material is integrally bonded to the aluminum substrate to provide durable traction for heavily travelled stairways.
The black non-slip insert creates a clearly defined stair edge where it contrasts with the surrounding tread surface, helping improve step-edge recognition.
The right-angled aluminum profile covers the leading edge and vertical face of the stair to help protect vulnerable edges from repeated foot traffic and wear.
The F4-N20 Series is tested for UV exposure, salt-spray resistance, freeze-thaw resistance, abrasion and washability for demanding stair applications.
Ecoglo® F4170 Product Configuration
The F4170 combines a clear-anodized F4-N20 aluminum stair-nosing profile with an integrally bonded black silicon-carbide non-slip insert.
Recommended Applications
Upgrade Existing Stairs Without Full Replacement
The F4170 is designed to fit over existing stair edges, making it a practical choice for stair renovations, safety upgrades and replacement of worn stair-edge surfaces.
Add a hard-wearing silicon-carbide walking surface to smooth, worn or potentially slippery stair edges.
The contrasting insert helps visually distinguish the stair edge from the surrounding tread surface.
The aluminum profile covers vulnerable horizontal and vertical stair surfaces exposed to repeated foot traffic.

Dimensions and Ordering
Installation Information
The Ecoglo® F4170 can be installed using polyurethane adhesive with mechanical fasteners or with adhesive only, depending on the substrate and project requirements.
Standard hole locations are approximately 2 inches from each end and approximately 12 inches apart.
Pre-drilled configurations include stainless steel fasteners and concrete nylon anchors.
Unattached inserts are recommended when the aluminum profile needs to be cut to the required length on site.
Performance Testing
Manufacturer documentation identifies the F4-N20 Series as meeting or exceeding performance criteria associated with slip resistance, weathering, abrasion, washability, anodized coating performance and flammability testing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Ecoglo® F4170?
F4170 is an Ecoglo® F4-N20 flat non-slip stair nosing with a clear-anodized aluminum profile and black silicon-carbide non-slip insert.
Is the F4170 photoluminescent?
No. The F4170 is a non-photoluminescent stair nosing. The black silicon-carbide insert provides traction and color contrast but does not glow in darkness.
How wide is the F4170?
The aluminum profile is approximately 2.7 inches or 68 mm wide, with an approximately 1.5-inch or 37.3 mm wide non-slip insert.
Which stair surfaces are compatible?
The F4-N20 Series can be installed on concrete, timber, tile, steel, checker plate and suitable thin carpeted stairs.
What lengths are available?
Standard manufacturer lengths are 8 ft and 10 ft. Cut-to-length options are available with a stated tolerance of approximately ± 1/8 inch.
Can the F4170 be cut on site?
Yes. When the aluminum profile will be cut on site, the manufacturer recommends ordering the non-slip insert unattached and bonding it after the profile has been cut.
How is the F4170 installed?
It can be installed with polyurethane adhesive and mechanical fasteners, or with adhesive only, depending on the substrate and project requirements.
What is the difference between F4170 and F4270?
Both use a black non-slip insert. F4170 uses the standard clear-anodized aluminum profile, while F4270 uses a black-anodized aluminum profile.

"Reduced to zero falls" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"During a major event last year we experienced approximately 26 slips and falls. This year, after installing an Ecoglo System, the figure for the same event was reduced to zero."
"Eliminated elderly falls" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“It’s a great product and we’re very happy with it. There were no falls by elderly visitors at our December(2010) commencement. It was worth every penny!”

Engineered for Durability
- Manufactured using Ecoglo®’s patented process which produces the most durable and highly efficient photoluminescent product available.
- Unique ridges in the photoluminescent strips protect it from most abrasive wear. They provide slip resistance while still allowing the product to be easily cleaned.
- The hard-wearing silicon carbide non-slip material is integrally bonded to the aluminum substrate. Thousands of people can walk on it with no signs of wear and tear.
Superior Step Edge Safety
- The color contrasting the non-slip material with advanced photoluminescent technology provides step edge visibility in all light conditions.
- The unique ridges in the Ecoglo® photoluminescent strips and the integrated anti-slip contrast strips provide all-weather slip resistance.
Installed Durability:
- The rigid aluminum base spreads any applied load over a greater area of installation adhesive. Installation with a premium polyurethane adhesive/sealant is extremely durable, moisture resistant, and works very well on both smooth and textured surfaces.
For Indoor Use and Outdoor Use:
- Tested to accelerated UV/weathering exposure, and proven to be highly resistant to the effects of UV/weathering.
- The loss in performance is less than can be detected by the human eye when subjected to 6000 hours of UV exposure, which is similar to 30 years of outdoor exposure.
- The polymer used in Ecoglo’s patented process is “long chain” which forms a strong UV resistant product when bonding.
